German Gambling Tax Revenue Rises to €647 Million in Q2

Germany collected €647 million in gambling taxes during the second quarter of 2026, representing a 4% increase compared with the same period last year.

State lotteries remained the largest source of gambling tax revenue. They contributed €455.9 million during the quarter, with the figure remaining broadly unchanged from 2025.

The country collects gambling-related taxes from several areas, including lotteries, sports betting, online poker and virtual slot games.

Germany applies specific taxes to regulated online gambling products. Sports betting, online poker and virtual slots are taxed based on player stakes rather than operators’ gross gaming revenue.

The latest figures continue a mixed trend for the German gambling market. In previous quarters, tax income from some products such as sports betting declined, while virtual slot tax revenue showed stronger growth.

Germany introduced its current regulated online gambling framework in July 2021. Since then, licensed operators have been allowed to offer products including sports betting, online poker and virtual slots under national rules.

The Q2 results show that gambling remains an important source of tax income for Germany’s federal states, with lotteries continuing to generate most of the total revenue.
